Magnesium Glycinate: The Quiet Mineral Behind Better Evenings

Magnesium Glycinate: The Quiet Mineral Behind Better Evenings

There is a particular kind of tired that sleep does not seem to fix. You lie down on time. You close your eyes. And your body, somehow, does not get the memo.

Before reaching for anything dramatic, it is worth asking a quieter question: is your body getting enough of the minerals it uses to settle down? Because for one mineral in particular, the honest answer for almost half the country is no.

The mineral most of us are missing

Magnesium sits inside more than 300 enzyme systems in the human body, including the ones involved in muscle relaxation, nerve function, and normal sleep regulation. It is not an exotic biohack. It is basic infrastructure.

From the research

Analyses of US dietary data conclude that roughly half of Americans consume less magnesium than their bodies require, a shortfall linked to modern diets built on processed foods grown apart from mineral-rich soil.

From the research

Magnesium is required for over 300 enzymatic reactions, including those governing muscle and nerve function and energy production, according to the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements.

Why the form matters so much

Here is what most labels will not tell you: magnesium supplements are not interchangeable. The mineral has to be bound to something, and that something changes everything about how it feels to take.

Cheap forms like magnesium oxide are poorly absorbed and famous for sending you to the bathroom. Magnesium glycinate binds the mineral to glycine, an amino acid your body already knows, and is widely chosen for evening routines for two reasons: it is gentle on digestion, and glycine itself is studied for its calming role in the nervous system.*

From the research

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in older adults with poor sleep, eight weeks of magnesium supplementation improved measures of sleep quality, sleep time, and sleep efficiency compared with placebo.

Again, the honest caveats: that trial studied older adults with existing sleep complaints, and magnesium research overall is still maturing. But when a mineral is this fundamental, this commonly under-consumed, and this well tolerated in its glycinate form, the case for making it part of an evening ritual is unusually strong.*

What we are building

This research is why the next Avennura formula belongs to the evening. UNWIND Magnesium Glycinate is here now, built to our usual standard: made in an NSF certified, FDA registered US facility, every lot tested by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab, with a Certificate of Analysis you can actually read.
